Josephine H. "Joedy" Allen, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Shrewsbury, MA with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Joedy was born January 13, 1932 in Watertown, New York to the late Agnes (Gamble) Horr and Robert Gilbert Horr. She was raised in Watertown with her two older siblings, the late Mary (Polly) E. Foster (Calvin) and the late Robert Gilbert Horr Jr. (Dorothy). She graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, New York and went on to the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA.
Joedy was predeceased by her husband, George Crawford Allen who died on February 28, 2015, who she met while at Katherine Gibbs and he at Babson College in Wellesley, MA. They married in Watertown, NY on December 27,1952.
George and Joedy had four children, Margaret Allen Howe (Bruce) of Mendon, MA, David Crawford Allen (Janet) of North Yarmouth, ME, George C. Allen Jr. of San Diego, CA and Robert Wallace Allen (Christine) of Cohasset, MA. Their family lived happily in Wellesley, MA, Cape Elizabeth, ME and Amherst, NH where Joedy worked as a librarian at the Amherst Town Library for many years.
Joedy enjoyed skiing, boating, traveling, needle point and summers on the coast of Maine and the St. Lawrence River (The 1000 Islands) in New York.
Most of all she loved and adored her family which grew to include 8 grandchildren, Graham Allen Howe (Katie), Laura Gamble Howe Alnaal (Osman), Carolyn Elizabeth Allen, Catherine Josephine Allen (Tony Vega), Reed Crawford Allen, Cooper Francis Allen and step grandchildren Ian Whitney (Morgan) and Anna Whitney. She had 3 great grandchildren, Safiya Rayan Alnaal , Alia Yasmine Alnaal and Nash Cassida Howe.
A private family service will be held at Newton Cemetery to honor and celebrate Joedy's life on January 13, 2024 which would have been her 92nd birthday.
