Thelma L. (Varnum) Swanson-Curtis, 101, of Waterville, Maine formerly of Hopedale died on April 23. She was the wife of the late Herbert Swanson who died in 1996 and the late Hartley Curtis who died in 2018.
she was born in Limington, Maine; daughter of the late George and Julia (Smith) Varnum. She was raised in Limington and was a graduate of Limington Acadamy. She also attended Thomas Business College in Waterville. Thelma had been employed by Hathaway Shirts in Waterville, Foster and Avery Clothing in Portland. After marrying Herbert Swanson and coming to Hopedale, she had worked for the town of Hopedale as a cook in the school cafeteria, Framingham Union Hospital as a utility aide, she was also a home health aide for the VNA. Her final employment was from Waters Associates.
Thelma had been a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Milford and had served there as a deacon, Sunday school teacher the woman's society and the good cheer committee.
Thelma is survived by a son, H. Steven Swanson of Smithtown, New York, three grandchildren Kelly McCrum, Steven E. Swanson and Shaun Swanson, She was also predeceased by a daughter Cynthia McCrum.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, April 29 at 11:am in the Watson colonial Funeral Home, 24 Congress St. Milford. Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral from 9 to 11:am.
